WORKSHOPS FOR 2008
CRISS X STITCHES
RED LION STREET TYWYN
Are you interested in learning new skills?
Would you like to spend a day receiving expert tuition and expand your
knowledge, understanding and skills with like- minded people? Then come
along to a Saturday Workshop to be held above the shop from 10am until
4pm(arrive 9.30am for a pre-work coffee)
Saturday 19th April PATCHWORK
A welcome return to Linda Paris. Linda never ceases to amaze us with
her knowledge of patchwork and her enthusiasm for her subject. We will
be making an Elegant Bag, sample on show at the shop. This is
a good opportunity to use up some of those fat quarters and fat quarter
leftovers we have in our stash! We will require our sewing machines,
so book early to avoid disappointment as I am sure we will learn a lot
from Linda as well as having a fun day.
Saturday 10th May KANTHA WORK
Joy Clayton makes a welcome return visit. This year we will be trying
our hand at Kantha Work, which is Indian Quilting. We shall explore
running stitch in this creative colourful embroidery. Adding glitz with
beads, sequins and mirrors. Joy will provide us with a small kit, which
can be made into a small bag. All levels of skills will be catered for
so everyone is welcome!
Saturday 7th June PATCHWORK
Linda's second visit for 2008 is called Tilting Mountains. You
can use up all those fabrics you have bought and saved to make an amazing
technicolour dreamcoat. A simple block using a random selection of remnants
to create a colourful quilt (but not all in the day!!) - sample or photo
to come.
Saturday 5th July & Saturday 26th July SILK SCARF
I am very pleased to be able to welcome
Dawn Holden to my team of tutors. Dawn is a City & Guilds examiner
so will be able to inspire us with many different techniques in the
future. This year I have chosen for us to make a silk scarf. You will
need to book not only for today but also the 26th July as we need two
sessions to complete this project.
Saturday 16th August BEADING
Rose makes another welcome return visit to guide us through yet another
skill in beading. We shall be learning how to do a Double Rope this
time.. A sample will be on show later on. Book early as Rose's workshops
are always very popular.
Saturday 13th September APPLIQUE
TECHNIQES
I was requested to see if Linda could do a class on appliqué
- I should have known Linda would be able to so she will be guiding
us through the different ways of tackling appliqué. Once again
more details and possibly samples later.
In advance I would like to thank the
new and regular tutors for agreeing to come to the shop, some may only
travel a few miles but others come hundreds of miles to impart their
particular speciality to us. I do hope you will offer your support again
this coming year.
The fee for this year will remain at
£20 for most of the courses but where a sewing machine is required
to enable me to cover expenses it will be necessary to charge £25
payable on booking or by instalments if you are attending several courses.
I still feel that this is very good value for money as many of the tutors
are highly trained and skilled ladies. (If you have paid and find yourself
unable to attend if your place can be filled from a waiting list then
only a £10 administration fee will be charged & a refund made
for the remainder). An additional fee for materials will be made on
the day, which will depend on what is required but will be kept to a
minimum by the tutors and myself.
We will again be collecting sandwiches
from The Terrace, which over the past couple of years have been delicious.
Tea/coffee and biscuits will be provided throughout the day.
I look forward to receiving your booking,
which will be done on a first come basis and will be limited to 12 per
workshop (8 if sewing machines are required). So book early to avoid
disappointment. I shall be holding a waiting list for each date so that
if someone is ill or cannot make the day I shall phone people from the
list..
